Education

Regard man as a mine rich in gems of inestimable value. Education can, alone, cause it to reveal its treasures, and enable man to benefit therefrom.

- Bahá’u’lláh

Central to the development of any community is an education process that facilitates the realization of the greatest potential of its inhabitants. In this process, special attention is given to the education of the children, youth, and enrichment of the entire community. This allows all individuals in the community to be active agents in the process of generation, application and dissemination of knowledge. There are three main kinds of education; Human, Material and Spiritual and these must be given equal emphasis if the community is to advance. Along with a multitude of friends in their communities.

The Bahá’ís of Uganda are engaged in an evolving educational process whose curriculum is set in such a way that it equips individuals to lead meaningful, service oriented lives that enables them to become agents for both individual and collective transformation. In this light, individuals are viewed as having capacity that remains latent within them and with the right balance among human, material and spiritual education, they are enabled to reveal their potential, and channel it into their community’s development endeavors.

The primary, the most urgent requirement is the promotion of education. It is inconceivable that any nation should achieve prosperity and success unless this paramount, this fundamental concern is carried forward.

- Abdu’l-Bahá

The Bahá’is have developed materials to address the spiritual needs of children, youth and adults. Through the Bahá’i inspired Ruhi Institute based in Columbia, South America, educational programmes for diverse age groups have been developed. These programs not only cultivate the ability in the students to be protagonist of their own development and well-being, but they incorporate an element of service to humanity which allows the students to further appreciate how they can be an element of positive change.

Bahá’í Beliefs
